Residential Roof Replacement Preparation Tips

The first tip is to prepare both the inside and outside of your home before the project begins. Cover all of your furniture, bedding, and clothing to prevent falling debris from damaging our household items. If your home has an attic, you can use an attic tarp to cover everything up.

As for the outside of your home, if you have any items near your home that might be damaged by falling debris, move them to a backyard shack or just further away from your house. Some of these items include your patio furniture, grills, statues, potted plants, bikes, etc. As for your roof, remove satellite dishes, solar panels, or antennas if you have any.

Children and Pets

If you have any pets or children, be extra cautious with them during the roof replacement. Communicate with your children about staying inside while the roof replacement is in progress. Falling debris could hurt them otherwise.

Put your pets in the quietest room you have. They might get stressed out by all of the noise above their heads. To play it safe, we recommend locking up the pet or only taking it out with a leash when the construction is taking place.

Remove Wall Decorations

Your home may experience vibrations while the roof replacement project is taking place. Your top floors will be affected by this vibration the most. Your paintings or other wall decorations might shake, so we recommend taking them down during this process. This will prevent any of them from falling and shattering.

Additional Tips for Homeowners

If your home has gates, make sure you leave them open for the roofers. Or, ask them to close the gates behind them at all times.

A dumpster might be delivered to you, a day or two before the roof replacement. The new roofing material might get delivered to your home a few days before the replacement as well. Ask your roofer when this will occur so you can ensure that someone is home and can move the cars in the driveway if necessary.
